Georg Meyer-Wiel × Uncovered

“The Light That Returns” by Georg Meyer-Weil for upcoming book Uncovered Part I. Soul

The collaboration between Georg Meyer-Wiel and Uncovered began with Uncovered Part I. Soul, where Georg was invited to create illustrations that would live inside the book. Working from a mix of photographs created for Uncovered and images from my personal archive, the focus was never traditional illustration, but interpretation - translating emotional states into visual form. Georg’s illustrations for Soul are not meant to decorate the text. They expand it. They open space for what cannot be fully expressed in words, allowing the emotional layers of the book to breathe.

Georg Meyer-Wiel on the Collaboration

- Artist’s statement -

From the very beginning of my journey as a figurative artist, I understood that my work would be empty without the spark each model brings into the studio. There is no great art without the right inspiration - without a muse. For me, nothing compares to the exchange that happens with the people I portray. My work is devoted to exploring the many layers and nuances of masculinity, and that exploration only comes alive through the individuality of each model.

“The Fall before the Rise” by Georg Meyer-Weil for upcoming book Uncovered Part I. Soul

In Alex, I discovered a man capable of embodying a remarkable range of characters — yet never as mere roles or disguises. With him, archetypes become something deeper: metaphors for emotion, for transformation, for the stages we pass through in life.

His ability to shift seamlessly between these emotional states gives my drawings an authenticity that could never be staged. He is not simply “posing” - he is inhabiting these moments, allowing himself to be both vulnerable and powerful in the same breath. Through every drawing I’ve made of Alex, and the countless hours of conversation we’ve shared, a genuine personal connection has formed. That connection is, for me, the most precious part of the creative process - more valuable than the finished piece itself. It’s what breathes life and soul into my work, turning it from mere depiction into something that carries meaning.

In the end, the collaboration is not just about creating images - it’s about witnessing and recording a human presence in all its complexity. This is where art, emotion, and trust converge, and where my work finds its truest purpose.
